Sometimes maturing bones and stiff joints may protest at the thought of another camping or hiking trip. Those moments of getting into or out of a too-low folding chair make for strong memories. Obviously padding that is not weather resistant is less desirable. You can find aluminum or steel frame folding chairs with leather padding – suitable for indoor use – and with a woven fabric that is made to resist the elements – suitable for your camping trips. The color of the chair may provide a clue as to the use: black padded folding chairs really seem to say “indoors” and “business.” White chairs, though, seem to go naturally with the outdoor event, provided the padding accommodates weather other than light sunshine.

While the black padded folding chair is probably not destined for your next camp fire, there are plenty that can work. Folding padded chairs aren’t restricted to indoor or business use only. The key, again, lies in the type of frame (look for steel or heavy aluminum) and the material used in the padding and seating. Dealer specifications will note whether the frame is intended to be weather resistant (phrases such as “powdered steel” indicates the frame has been treated to keep the metal shiny and to avoid oxidation). And similar phrasing in the specifications for the padding and seating material will help: “resists mildew” or “exterior vinyl mesh” are likely candidates.

The extra trouble you incur to locate, purchase and secure folding padded chairs will pay off in the not only the comfort you will have beside the fire, but the folks you will please with the additional comfort.
